Edgewood Commissioner Sterling Donner announced the end of his tenure at the Nov. 26 commission meeting, stating he wants to accomplish different plans and that he does not want conflict of interest to be an issue.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to step down from the position to focus on helping the community in a broader capacity,” Donner said. “This role has certain constraints that have hindered my ability to freely communicate and collaborate with agencies and officials, both public and private, in my advocacy to address the broader needs of not only our town but the entire Estancia Valley region.”

Donner also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the town of Edgewood for the past three years, which has helped him garner gratifying relationships and experiences.
Donner was first elected to the Town Commission in 2021 and re-elected two years later. In accordance with State statute, the Edgewood Governing Body is responsible for appointing an individual to fill the vacancy and will begin that process shortly.
Commissioners did just that earlier this year, voting 3-1 to appoint Steve Murrillo as their newest member in August after Jerry Powers resigned in July because of health issues. Murrillo will serve as commissioner until the seat comes up for reelection in November 2025. Donner’s seat is up for reelection in 2027.
