Starting at the end of September, in the beautiful forest of the Manzano Mountains, the town of Torreon will be having a shindig devoted to a favorite harvest crop: delicious apples.

On weekends from Sept. 28 through Oct. 13, the Manzano Mountain Retreat will host the Apple Harvest Festival with a slew of events to help kick off the fall.

Located in the Cibola National Forest in Torreon, the Manzano Mountain Retreat hosts private and corporate events of all types like weddings, retreats and festivals. This year’s Apple Harvest Festival will have food trucks, farm animals, a car show, a vendor’s market and of course, fresh apples and cider for sale. An apple pie baking contest with prizes will take place on the final day of the festival.

The event will have live music every afternoon. Tuly and Friends kick off the first day of the festival opening for Billy and Bella Sept. 28, the ABQ Girls Choir performs Sept. 29, Levi Dean and the Mesa Rats will perform and the Eisenhower Middle School Choir will sing Oct. 5, Bruce Davis plays Oct. 6, Kathy Liden plays Oct. 12, and the party ends with a final musical performance by Desert Wave featuring Alexis Schaumburg and Brian Wilson on Oct. 13.

The retreat hosts a variety of classes teaching everything from painting and canning to meat farm homesteading and the medicinal use of plants. Some of the classes require advanced tickets and at least one class is already sold out.

The Manzano Mountain Retreat also has several cabins for those who wish to stay overnight including the two-story Pippin Cabin and even Glamping Tents, which are large canvas tents overlooking the mountains and furnished with a queen bed, kitchen table and couch.

The Manzano Mountain Retreat asks that no one picks apples from their trees directly to protect future harvests.
