After two and half years of service, the Edgewood Police Department gave a  last 10-7 to Chief Roger Jimenez.

The announcement came during a gathering where an emotional speech was given through the Vehicle Intercom System.

He was thanked for his invaluable service and was wished the best in the next chapter of his life.

Jimenez then reflected on his tenure and the importance of law enforcement as he has served the Edgewood community with a commitment to public safety and protection.

Jimenez has also been in law enforcement for 20 years, serving the state of New Mexico.

“Congratulations on your retirement,” said EPD through a social media post where a brief video shows Jimenez giving his last goodbye.

During his heartfelt goodbye, Jimenez thanked the department and praised his colleagues as “the last thing standing in the midst of darkness and evil.”

He highlighted the support received from the commissioners and the governing body as well and assured that officers are in “good hands with Chief Ross.”

He expressed his trust in the new leadership under Ross, sharing his confidence in the leadership that characterizes EPD.

Jimenez also took the time to praise his department, claiming it is “the best (police) department in the state” thanks to the dedication of its officers and personnel.

A personal moment was also shared when he introduced his mother, Nancy, and made a brief but powerful mention of his late father, who passed away three years ago.

He paid tribute to his father, who inspired him and his brother to join law enforcement. He wished his father could have been present, noting that his father never got a “last ride.”

Accompanied by his family, Jimenez also expressed his belief of putting family first.

“Make your family priority, man, the only thing you’re going to have when you retire,” he advised his colleagues.

The intimate farewell concluded with Jimenez reiterating his love and appreciation for his community after his two-and-a-half-year tenure and humorously mentioning a pizza order from his wife, hinting at a transition to a different, relaxed lifestyle.
