McCall’s Farm has been a favorite fall destination for Moriarty locals and city slickers for decades, and these days the farm employs about 400 people to work its fall and Halloween events.
Kevin McCall, owner and manager of McCall’s Farm, says first and foremost, people should come out for the pumpkins. A hay ride through the pumpkin patch is included with admission, and attendees can choose the best ones to purchase in time for Halloween.
“Pumpkins look phenomenal this year,” McCall said. “That’s a plus, they’ve been kind of questionable the last two or three years, but they look good this year.”
No Halloween celebration would be complete without some good scares, and McCall’s has employed 100 actors to strike terror into those brave enough to try and survive their haunted attractions. There are two haunts at McCall’s: the haunted barn and the haunted corn maze.
“We suggest 13 and older for kids, so it’s pretty intense. I think that people need to know. It’s not a kiddy haunted house,” McCall said. “They’ll be sleeping with you if you bring the little ones, and the big ones may be sleeping with you too.”
For those who are too young, too jumpy, or just don’t think being frightened is their idea of a good time, there are a ton of other things to do at McCall’s Farm besides the haunts.
McCall said their farm has a train that attendees can ride around the 13-acre corn maze, a castle where kids can get makeovers and have tea with a princess, trampoline-like jumping pillows, and a crowd favorite: the candy cannon capable of shooting 40 pounds of sweets into the air for people to collect when it lands.
“We want people to know that there’s at least a good half, if not a full day of playing at the farm, depending on how much you wanna do and to what extent,” McCall says. “Don’t rob yourself on time.”
