A Moriarty nonprofit is partnering with a charitable foundation that helps fund organizations throughout New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma to raise money and help feed families in the East Mountain communities and the Estancia Valley.

Bethel Community Storehouse and The Carl C. Anderson Sr. and Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation have issued a challenge to raise money for a matching grant that will help their New Mexico neighbors in need.

Once the storehouse reaches $20,000 in donations, the foundation has said they will match that amount. All of the money raised will go toward purchasing food for donations to the community.

Bethel Community Storehouse has been providing emergency food, clothing, housewares and furniture to low or no-income families in the East Mountains and the Greater Estancia Valley since 1987. On average, the organization which describes itself as a Christ-based interfaith community of 15 churches, helps feed nearly 22,000 people per year.

Started in 1963 and fully funded in 2003 by the estate of Carl C. and Marie Jo Anderson, the foundation has provided over $70 million in funding for nonprofits that specialize in assisting children, seniors, and people with disabilities.

Donations can be dropped off in person to Bethel or mailed to PO Box 968 Moriarty, New Mexico 87035. Bethel asks that donors write “challenge grant” on their gifts.

Bethel Storehouse’s PayPal information is available on their website for those who wish to make a donation.
