We live in a world where water levels are dangerously low, outdated machinery is hogging essential energy, and tons of food is wasted daily. Reduce, reuse, recycle- a term that has been battered into our minds from a young age, yet the trend stays the same. Resources diminish, carbon footprints rise, and fingers are pointed in hopes of someone taking responsibility.

My grandmother used to say, “Waste not want not,” and as I consider the future of our planet, these words mean more to me than ever before. I believe every person has a responsibility in the climate fight as our collective actions will influence what is available for future generations.

Living in New Mexico is a constant reminder of how precious water access is. As the state fluctuates with water shortages and navigates its 50-year water plan, I realize how important it is to mitigate waste and maximize efficiency and output.

I founded Sigflow to give individuals the power to live more sustainably by utilizing cutting-edge technology to reduce negative impacts on the planet, such as the overuse of water.

Using technology such as soil monitoring and smart irrigation, Sigflow’s agriculture sensors help ensure food sufficiency and generate higher revenue for farmers all by equipping these professionals with the tools they need to thrive in a digital-forward world.

Through smartphones, farmers can monitor tank levels in real time even if they are thousands of miles away. Today, hundreds of sensors have been deployed across New Mexico to save water and give farmers the power to effectively manage their business from afar.

For New Mexico, responsible use of natural resources using mindful innovation and collaboration will define our technological landscape. By prioritizing U.S. technology that focuses on sustainability, we are setting the stage for a greener New Mexico.

I urge policymakers who are considering legislation that stifles innovation to take a thoughtful approach to regulation to protect people like our famers who use technology to better our world.
